Coastal walks
The Isle of Wight Coastal Path runs right past Brighstone, with chalk cliffs, chines and big sea views in both directions.
The Isle of Wight Coastal Path loops right around the island, roughly 70 miles in all, and is usually walked in six sections. It is waymarked in both directions, mostly with a seagull symbol and “Coastal Footpath” signs, so you can join it anywhere and turn back whenever you like.
Brighstone sits where two of the six sections meet. Head west for the Yarmouth to Brighstone stretch, with fossil-rich bays, the downs and views to the Needles. Head east for Brighstone to Niton, along quieter cliff tops towards St Catherine’s Point.
Plan your walk
There are small car parks, most of them free, along the Military Road behind the cliffs, which makes it easy to walk one way and return along the downs. The National Trust car parks at Brook, Hanover Point and Compton Chine are good starting points for the West Wight.
